GLEE vs SMASH

Okay, my friend told me, Smash is similar to Glee (as I Just LOVE GLEE). So, I watched Smash. a few episodes, i was like, okay this is boring. This post is about SMASH in general in my point of view and also about how Glee and Smash are nothing a like.

Smash is about this production of a musical about Marilyn Monroe(Im sure you know her) called  "Bombshell". These 2 ladies, one played by Katherine Mcphee and the other Megan Hilty compete to play Marilyn, Hilty gets the part only to loose it to a "movie star" Rebecca Duval (played by Uma Thurman) because the show wasnt getting an endorsement.  The story line is very boring in my opinion, as it focuses on the musical production and has too much drama for my taste. The show has many re-occurring main characters besides the aforementioned, like the director, producer, screenplay writer, her husband, musical composer and his assistant. I just think the show is too fake? i dont know, I like some parts. For the musical they use original compositions (If I'm not mistaken) and when they sing songs like during monologue or just for fun, the songs are famous songs, some are nice other not so much. Basicaly the only thing in common with Glee is they do covers too, but Glee does more covers and better covers at that.

Now, why I say Glee and Smash are totally different. Okay, yes they are both musical based Television shows. They both do covers on famous songs. BUT Glee, does situations songs most of the time. This meaning , they sing a song according to what is going on and that song is a famous song, yes they did do original songs but only for a few episodes. Smash songs, only some are situation songs, mostly are the songs of the musical. Glee does have drama, but not this much. The drama Smash has is similar to a soap opera, or maybe they were going for that, I have no clue. Next, Glee is more spontaneous when they sing, whereas here mostly(not all) the songs in the show is done in a way to show it was rehearsed. Glee is also tackles certain issues faced by people, like about being Gay, being who you are, trustfulness, they make people feel good and they instill certain values into the views whereas Smash doesn't do anything of the sort.

Okay, so I think that's it. I cant remember I've missed any points so this is why I think Smash and Glee are different. not promoting anything , just trying to prove a point.
until next time, same place, different time.
